Solution Highlights

Design Thinking workshops used created a model of the current learning ecosystem and onboarding/training provided for sales associates.

The Home Depot was able to understand and visualize the impact of mobile learning for their employee onboarding and training.

A roadmap was created for implementation with long-term technology/architecture/integration requirements.

The learning experience led to a 50% decrease in onboarding time while providing the same level of knowledge and proficiency.

Need
The Home Depot desired to update onboarding for sales associates using an LMS and asynchronous e-learning. They needed guidance on approaching mobile learning to rollout an effective mobile onboarding solution to replace elements of their LMS and provide valuable tools for new and experienced sales associates.
Approach
The Allen Interactions team provided The Home Depot with Design Thinking analysis and synthesis to frame the necessary requirements and strategy to deliver their vision of mobile learning transformation for sales staff.
The following activities framed a crawl/walk/run approach for the effort and defined the “could/should/must” activities from a broad range of potential requirements.
Drive Solution with Thought Leadership
A group of mobile learning experts were assembled in addition to the Home Depot and Allen Interactions teams. Together, benchmarks were outlined to illuminate the art of the possible.
Model the Ecosystem
Using Design Thinking workshops, we built a model of the current problems and the potential solutions that could be provided through mobile learning. We then visualized the space for solutions through the lens of the prior defined strategy and vision.
Research Approach
Our internal User Experience (UX) research team helped frame and validate the UX Design questions from the learning ecosystem analysis. This led to
building the broader mobile learning solution.
Technology/Integration Analysis
The internal supporting/enabling technologies were modeled and analyzed for consideration into the technical approach.
Pilot Analysis/Definition of Approach
Pilot data and UX research data was analyzed and defined to inform the overall technical roadmap and approach to implementation.
Results
Once implemented, the mobile learning solution led to a 50% decrease in onboarding time for sales associates while providing the same level of knowledge and proficiency.
